Taves Family Farms has many areas that need Tourism Attendants.  These positions are primarily weekends but we do have some weekday opportunities as well.

Below are positions that are available this year. Note: all applicants must be 15 years of age or older to be employed at Taves Farms Applebarn.

Agri-Tourism Supervisor

Main Purpose/Role of the Position: Assisting the Agri-Tourism managers with the planning, prep and running of all the tourism activities on the farm during the fall harvest season and at other times of the year as requested.

Reports to:

  • Tourism Managers
  • Owners

Direct Reports: 

  • Seasonal tourism staff
  • Work Crews as assigned/required

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the setup, execution and take down of tourism events and operations including but not limited to fall operations, school tours, special events and u-pick operations
  • Provide direct customer service to the public and deal with any issues or conflicts that arise
  • Be able to answer questions about farm operations and products in a knowledgeable way OR be able to find the answers to patron questions
  • Supervise seasonal tourism staff including training and ongoing oversight including being able to fill in at any position to cover breaks and help as needed
  • Assist with reconciling cash outs and building floats
  • Assist as needed with the setup, programming and maintenance of the farm’s POS systems as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience overseeing a work crew and supervising hourly staff
  • Standard First Aid certificate
  • Valid driver’s license and comfortable driving a variety of standard farm vehicles (i.e. tractors)
  • Retail and POS experience
  • Able to think outside the box with excellent problem-solving skills and common sense to find the most efficient answers to a range of problems
  • Self-motivated, able to work alone and as part of a team while still adhering to deadlines and being productive
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High attentions to detail and excellent organizational skills. Able to multi-task easily
  • Able to handle stressful situations in a calm manner and able to give and receive feedback in a calm and constructive manner
  • Able to lift 30 lbs, climb ladders comfortably and stand for extended periods of time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate

Working Conditions:
Able to work in all kinds of weather conditions. Able to work extended hours across a varied schedule of days and stand for extended periods of time. Weekend hours are required during open dates. The job will be primarily outside on the farm grounds.

Hours will be part time to start while you are in training and from the end of August to November4 it will be full time.

Agri-Tourism Attendant

Job or Staff Position Name: Agri-Tourism Attendant in various locations on the farm. Some of the places we need attendants are in the Ticket Booth, Store, Petting Barn, Concession, Java Hut, Hayride Loader, Roaster, Cannons, Farmville and Parking

Why this job is important: You are responsible to make sure our guests feel welcome and safe on the farm.  You are the face of the farm.  We want the customers to have a great experience and create memories that will last a lifetime and you are a big part of that.

Minimum Level of Service Requirement:

  • You MUST smile and offer a “Welcome!”
  • You MUST accurately explain rules, rates, and activities as needed
  • You MUST be able to answer the essential questions (information given later)
  • You MUST keep the area clean from garbage as time allows
  • You MUST make sure ALL guests follow rules for safety on the farm
  • You MUST know the farm emergency procedures
  • You MUST be able to work well with others on the team
  • You MUST be able to carefully follow instructions and ask questions when you don’t understand your job or any instructions you’ve been given

Weekday or Weekend Hayride Driver

Job or Staff Position Name:  Hayride Driver

Why this job is important:  You are the face of the Applebarn and are the person people trust with giving them the best experience possible.  They expect you to entertain them as well as answer all their questions about the farm, apples and pumpkins.  You responsible to make sure our guests are safe and have the proper wristband before entering the wagon.  It is also up to you to make sure they know where and how to pay for their pumpkin.

Minimum Level of Service Requirement:

You MUST:

  • Smile and offer a “Welcome!”
  • be able to answer the essential questions.
  • be able to talk about the farm in an interesting and expressive way.
  • make sure there are not too many people on the wagon.
  • make sure guests have the proper wristband in order to ride the wagon.
  • keep the area clean from garbage as time allows.
  • make sure guests know where and how to pay for pumpkins.
  • make sure guests know the safety rules for the hayride.
  • If you have a loader, they have given the all clear before you begin driving
  • make sure the wagon path is free of people and carts.
  • complete safety checklists throughout your shift.
  • be able to safely drive and operate a tractor and trailer.
