- 1 ½ cups sugar
- ½ cups oil
- ½ cup applesauce
- 3 eggs
- 2 cups flour
- 1 ½ tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp. nutmeg
- 3 cups apples finely chopped
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix wet ingredients together first and then add in dry ingredients. Do not over-mix. Stir in apples. Line a 12 x 15 inch cookie sheet with parchment paper. Spoon batter into cookie sheet and bake for 25 – 30 minutes until lightly brown.
Once cake is cool, ice with caramel frosting.
Caramel Frosting Recipe
- ½ cup margarine
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 cups icing sugar
Directions
Heat margarine until melted and stir in brown sugar. Boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add milk and use whisk to mix in. Heat until boiling. Place the bowl in a sink full of cold water and gradually beat in ice sugar until set. Once cake is cool, frost with icing.

Please advise if you mean freshly homemade, or you mean buying canned. If homemade, which kind of apple to use. Do I need to drain off the juice? If buying canned, which brand?
